The Oddfather was inspired by Francis Ford Coppola’s 1972 crime film, The Godfather, based on a best-selling novel by Mario Puzo. Its large ensemble cast included Marlon Brando as crime boss Vito Corleone, Al Pacino as Michael Corleone, James Caan as Sonny Corleone, Talia Shire as Connie Corleone, Diane Keaton as Kay Adams-Corleone, and Robert Duvall as Tom Hagen. The Godfather trilogy, which traces the Corleone family’s history from 1945 to 1955, and Michael Corleone’s shift from reluctant outsider to ruthless mob boss, was also brilliantly presented by Larry Siegel and Mort Drucker in Oddfather II and III.
Mort Drucker’s film and television parodies, scripted by his colleagues, had an elegant exaggeration, with stylized but unmistakable likenesses and expressive gestures. In The Oddfather, Drucker perfectly captures the distinctive jowls and underbite of Brando’s Vito Corleone.
