Illustrator Victor Juhasz’s Cooked Goose was inspired by Rockwell’s famous Runaway, but his art takes a very different tone. “The Village Voice story was about then New York City Mayor, Bill de Blasio, who was facing the reality of working with the police union after having made the campaign promise to revamp the NYPD,” said the artist. “When I received the assignment my mind immediately flashed to Rockwell's Runaway, as it intuitively felt like a perfect setup for de Blasio’s reality check. The irony is that de Blasio is a tall guy and here he's portrayed as the diminutive kid. The cop is huge and towering over him, and while not totally menacing, he is definitely not the congenial character in Rockwell’s image. Former New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton stands behind the counter, and cooked goose is a special on the menu.”
